HeyGen turns a script into a polished video with a realistic AI presenter — useful for explainers, announcements, and social clips. The API token lets your AI employee submit those video jobs and retrieve the finished files on your behalf.
This is a proxied key. It is held encrypted at our backend (AES-256-GCM) and is never injected into your workroom container. When a video is requested, the container talks to a backend proxy that attaches the token for that request only, so the credential never lands inside the running environment.
We ask for your own token so avatar rendering is billed to your HeyGen plan and draws on your video credits, never a shared quota that others could deplete. That keeps cost and capacity firmly in your hands, and you can revoke or regenerate the token from HeyGen settings whenever you want to cut off access.
Where to get your API token
- 1Sign in to your account at heygen.com (an API-capable plan is required to issue a token).
- 2Open Settings from your account menu, then select the API tab.
- 3Click "Create Token" (or "New API Key").
- 4Copy the generated token and store it safely.
- 5Paste it into this field and save.
